This Saturday at 6:30 the St. Anthony Friars will take on Huntington Prep in the Prime Time Shootout. The game will be played at Roselle Catholic High School. The Friars will put its 50-game winning streak on the line against a club which is 21-1. In the latest USA Today national rankings, St. Anthony was No. 3, Huntington Prep No. 4. Defense, as always, will be the key for St. Anthony as it tries to stop a high-scoring outfit led by 6-5 senior guard/forward Hawkins and 6-7 Wiggins.
Key Players:
KYLE ANDERSON, ST. ANTHONY
The 6-foot-7 point UCLA-bound guard led St. Anthony to a 33-0 record and a national championship a year ago and has picked up where he left off this season in leading the Friars to a 17-0 record as of Thursday. Anderson takes advantage of his size by taking the ball to the hole in a smooth, methodical style, but he will also nail the 3-pointer. Excellent in the open floor as well. Anderson is averaging 15 points per game, but numbers are never big at St. Anthony because of the lopsided margins of victory for the No. 1 team in The Star-Ledger Top 20.
ANDREW WIGGINS, HUNTINGTON PREP (W.VA.)
Wiggins, a 6-7, 190-pound sophomore strong forward from Toronto, Ontario and son of former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins, is the top-ranked player in the 2014 class according to ESPNU’s Terrific 25. Wiggins is averaging 23 points and seven rebounds per game this season in leading Huntington Prep (22-1) to a No. 5 ranking in USA Today’s Super 25. His teammates include West Virginia-bound Elijah Macon, Missouri-bound Negus Webster-Chan and Stefan Jankovic and South Florida-bound JaVontae Hawkins.
